Exploring Opportunities in Agroforestry and Regenerative Farming

Mulch Farms
A connected company, Endless Mulch Farms LLC, is using part of the property exploring farming using deep mulch methods. They are partnering with tree trimmers, landscapers and local horticulture recycling companies to put this 'waste' to good use.
Traditional industrial agriculture degrades soil over time with tilling, chemical fertilizers and pesticides.
Chemical fertilizers are a particular problem in Florida with there runoff contributing to blue green algae and red tide.
Regenerative farming will actually improve the soil and environment over time and has many benefits for carbon containment and sequestration.

Initial plants to use for propagation and expansion
The initial stages of development will be setting up windrows of ground material. Every other pathway will be planted with short term crops like sugarcane, banana, papaya and longer term fruit tree and bamboo. As the mulch breaks down it will feed the plants. The empty pathways will allow equipment access to maintain the windrows.
Material collection for Hugulculture or future grinding for onsite usage of resulting mulch. Piles will not be higher than 12’ high. Per fire expert Fire Engineer Jeff Collins, yard waste piles are not susceptible to spontaneous combustion that are 12’ or less.

What We are Planting
The initial crops we are planting have already been proven to grow well in a deep mulch method. These are Banana, Pineapples, Cherries and Sugarcane. Support plants for these crops will be Moringa, Mexican Sunflower, Sweet Potato and other nitrogen fixing plants.
We will also be planting out a large amount of bamboo. Initially focusing on bambusa textilis gracilis to use for windbreaks and to create an attractive border around the property. An example of how this looks is shown in the photo to the right.

Care for the environment and our future are critical to the mission of EMF. As part of this goal we are at the forefront of using zero emission electric equipment and are one of the first companies in the US that are operating an electric skid steer/loader.
